MACO - we are complete!
PLOT SUMMARY
37 years apart, a father and his son document the essence of family. Back in 1985 while celebrating his Age Group confirmation as customary in Ivbiodohen village, Maco started work on a documentary project which was meant to serve as a backdrop for the chronicling of my extended family, and the larger clan from which he hails. Upon his death in 2019, his son; Stanlee Ohikhuare decided to make an attempt to complete what his father started, by taking cues from the direction of his father's previous documentary work and expanding it to incorporate deep philosophies, casual sentiments, and the many emotional undertones that punctuate the core nature of the entire Ohikhuare family - a family where everyone feels the urge to suppress emotions that might be perceived as weakness, even in times of grief.
My father, Barrister (Chief) Macaulay MACO Ojeata Ohikhuare (ACP Rtd) 'THE AIGBOKHAEVBORO' of Iuleha clan was born on the 16th of March, 1945 into the family of Late High Chief Gabriel Aigbomobe Ohikhuare of Ule-Eromon Quarters, Ivbiodohen - Okpuje, Owan West L.G.A of the Western Region (previously Mid-Western Region (1963) / Bendel State (1976) now Edo State(1991), Nigeria. He was the fourth of eight siblings, birthed by Late Omohiehe Atose - Ohikhuare. Upon his death in 2019, I decided to complete the beautiful documentary he had started. Completed in 2021, MACO (we are complete) was first shown at a family gathering commemorating the anniversary of my father's burial and for the first time, I saw my sibling weep without any hinderance to the the expression of pure emotions. I believe I have finally managed to document something that will not just entertain, but also serve as a research material for my kids. My children will pass this material down to their own children, and possibly expand on it. Overall, this documentary throws so much light on relatable cultural family traditions that Africans; especially Nigerians are conversant with. |
